    See what it does

A cut-out photo of a man with a transparent background, as a WebP fileBefore: WebP, 99 kB
The same picture as a JPG file, with a white backgroundAfter: JPG, 137 kB
Made with this tool: 896 × 1200 px, 99 kB → 137 kB. JPG has no transparency, so transparent areas become white (you can pick another colour). The person in this example is AI-generated.

About the WebP to JPG tool

WebP is a modern format created by Google that many websites use to load faster. Browsers display it fine, but plenty of desktop software, older phones and online forms still only accept JPG or PNG.

Lossy and lossless WebP images are both supported. Animated WebP files are converted using their first frame, and any transparency is filled with the background color you choose.

    Frequently asked questions

Why do images download as WebP from websites?

Many websites serve WebP because it is smaller than JPG at the same quality, which makes pages load faster. Your browser saves the file in the format it received.

Will I lose quality converting WebP to JPG?

At the default quality of 90 the difference is not visible. Converting between two lossy formats always re-compresses the image slightly, so avoid converting the same image back and forth.

    What about animated WebP files?

JPG cannot store animation, so the first frame of an animated WebP is converted.

Should I choose JPG or PNG?

Choose JPG for photos and when you need a small file. Choose PNG (with the WebP to PNG tool) for logos, graphics or images with transparency.
