    About the Resize Image tool

With the aspect-ratio lock on, the size you enter works as a box the image must fit inside, so every photo in a batch keeps its natural shape, whether it is portrait or landscape. Turn the lock off to force an exact width and height.

Downscaling uses the Lanczos filter for crisp results; enlarging uses Catmull-Rom to avoid harsh halos. Images keep their original format: JPG stays JPG, PNG stays PNG and WebP stays WebP.

    Frequently asked questions

How do I resize an image without stretching it?

Keep "Lock aspect ratio" switched on. Enter just a width (or just a height) and the other side is calculated for you. If you enter both, the image is scaled to fit inside that box.

Can I make an image bigger?

Yes, up to 16,384 pixels per side. Keep in mind that enlarging cannot add detail that was not in the original, so large upscales will look soft.

What does resizing by percent do?

It scales both width and height by the same percentage. For example, 50 percent turns a 4000 x 3000 photo into 2000 x 1500, which usually makes the file about four times smaller.

Will resizing reduce the file size?

Making an image smaller in pixels almost always reduces its file size. If you need a specific size in KB, use the Compress to Exact Size tool instead.
