About the AI Image Upscaler tool
The upscaler uses Real-ESRGAN (general model), a well-known super-resolution network that removes blur and compression artifacts while enlarging. It runs on your graphics chip through WebGPU or WebGL, with a CPU fallback for small images.
Images are processed in tiles, so even large outputs fit in memory. Inputs up to 2 megapixels are supported (about 0.1 megapixels on devices without graphics acceleration).
Frequently asked questions
How is this different from resizing?
Normal resizing stretches pixels, which looks blurry. The AI model predicts the missing detail, giving sharper edges and cleaner textures.
How long does it take?
Usually 5 to 60 seconds per image, depending on its size and your graphics chip; a progress percentage is shown. Without graphics acceleration it is much slower, so only small images are accepted.
Should I choose 2x or 4x?
4x gives the biggest result for very small images like icons or old photos. 2x is faster and is often enough for printing or sharing.
Are my images uploaded?
No. The AI model is downloaded to your browser and runs on your device. Your images never leave it.
