About the Straighten Photo tool
In automatic mode, portraits are leveled using the eye line from an on-device face model. Photos without a face are leveled using their strongest straight lines, such as the horizon, a table edge or the sides of a building.
After rotating, the photo is cropped to the largest rectangle with the original proportions that contains no empty corners. Small tilts lose very little of the picture.
Frequently asked questions
How does automatic straightening work?
If there is a face, the photo is rotated until both eyes are level. Otherwise the tool looks for the dominant straight lines, like the horizon or building edges, and makes them level or vertical.
Why did my photo get slightly smaller?
Rotating creates empty corners. The tool crops them away, keeping the original aspect ratio. A 2° correction removes only a few percent around the edges.
What if automatic mode picks the wrong angle?
Switch to Manual and set the angle with the slider, from −15° to +15° in 0.1° steps.
Are my photos uploaded?
No. The face model and all processing run on your device.
