    About the Crop Image tool

The passport preset produces a 413 x 531 pixel image, which is 35 x 45 mm at 300 DPI, the size used for passports and visas in the UK, EU, India, Australia and many other countries. The 2 x 2 inch preset produces 600 x 600 pixels, the format required for US passports and visas.

The crop box works with mouse, touch and keyboard (arrow keys move it). Photos taken in portrait on a phone are shown the right way up, exactly as they will be saved.

    Frequently asked questions

What size is a 35 x 45 mm passport photo in pixels?

At the standard printing resolution of 300 DPI it is 413 x 531 pixels. The passport preset crops to this exact shape and resizes the result to that size.

How do I make a 2 x 2 inch photo for a US passport or visa?

Choose the 2 x 2 in preset, position your head in the middle of the square and crop. The result is 600 x 600 pixels, matching the US State Department requirement of 600 to 1200 pixels square.

Can I crop several images at once?

Yes. Add multiple images, choose a shape and click "Crop all (centered)" to crop every image around its center. You can still fine-tune any single image afterwards.

    Does cropping reduce image quality?

Cropping itself only removes pixels; the rest stays untouched. JPG files are saved at high quality (92) and PNG files are saved losslessly.
