About the JPG to PNG tool
PNG is a lossless format: once your image is a PNG, editing and re-saving it will not degrade it further, which makes it a good working format for graphics, screenshots and images you plan to edit.
Converting does not restore detail that JPG compression already removed, and PNG files of photos are usually larger than the JPG. If you only need a smaller file, use the Image Compressor instead.
Frequently asked questions
Will converting JPG to PNG improve quality?
No. The PNG is a perfect copy of the JPG as it is now, but it cannot bring back detail lost when the JPG was first saved. It does prevent further loss on future edits.
Why is my PNG file bigger than the JPG?
PNG stores every pixel exactly (lossless), while JPG throws away detail the eye barely notices. For photos, that makes PNG files typically 3 to 10 times larger.
Does the PNG get a transparent background?
No. JPG images have no transparency, so the PNG keeps the same solid background. Removing a background requires a separate editing step.
Is there a limit on how many files I can convert?
You can convert up to 50 images per batch, as many times as you like. There are no daily limits or watermarks.
