About the HEIC to JPG tool

iPhones and iPads save photos as HEIC by default because it takes about half the space of JPG. But Windows, many Android phones, older software and most upload forms cannot open HEIC files.

This converter decodes HEIC with libheif compiled to WebAssembly, so it works in Chrome, Edge and Firefox on any operating system, and uses the built-in decoder in Safari when available. The decoder is downloaded only when you use this page.

    Frequently asked questions

    What is a HEIC file?

HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is the photo format iPhones use by default since iOS 11. It stores high-quality photos in roughly half the space of JPG.

How do I open HEIC files on Windows?

The easiest way is to convert them to JPG here: drop the files in, then download the JPGs. They open in every Windows app without extra codecs.

Will converting HEIC to JPG reduce quality?

At the default quality of 90 the difference is not visible. JPG files will be larger than the HEIC originals because JPG compresses less efficiently.

Can I stop my iPhone from saving HEIC photos?

Yes. Go to Settings > Camera > Formats and choose "Most Compatible". New photos will be saved as JPG. Existing photos stay HEIC.

Is it safe to convert personal photos here?

Yes. The photos are converted inside your browser and are never uploaded. Location data and other metadata are also removed from the JPG.
